The company began when Bill Stevens of Augusta, Georgia purchased it from the Houston, Texas owners. He then transformed it into Club Car. It wasn’t long before the company had improved golf course transit for the better. In 1960, Club Car created the very first golf car with a steering wheel, which gained popularity among golfing celebrities.
It was 1962 when Club Car really took off. Stevens and his son drove their golf car from Georgia to Dunedin, Florida to attend the 1962 PGA show. The journey took place over six days. Over time, the golf cars continued to see various improvements, including stronger roofs, additional seating, and spacious storage compartments.
In the 1980s, Club Car effectively expanded its offerings from golf cars to utility vehicles. These models were designed to handle more rugged expeditions and tasks. The first Club Car utility vehicle was a modified golf car built for use as a golf course maintenance vehicle.
Over the next several years, a series of different utility models were released and each one offered something new and different than the previous. Today, you’ll find a number of models that offer increased fuel efficiency, impressive hauling capacity, and the ability to carry cargo and transport passengers. There’s even a low-speed vehicle that boasts zero emissions.
